Canyon Adventures adopt a risk management policy aimed at minimizing risks. By their very nature, the outdoor activities offered by Canyon Adventures can never be considered 100% safe, as there always remains a part of risk (personal, environmental, factual) that cannot be completely excluded. The customer therefore agrees to practice the aforementioned activities “as they are”, aware of the risks involved.
It is therefore not possible for Canyon Adventures to provide any guarantee or assume any liability resulting from the performance of such activities, even if carried out for the benefit of minors or disabled people. For minors, acceptance of the conditions and assessment of psycho-physical suitability to participate in the activities is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.

Canyoning
Canyoning involves descending a stream through its gorge, overcoming the various obstacles that are created (waterfalls, rock jumps, slides, corridors and small lakes) by walking, swimming and with the possibility or sometimes the need to perform dives, slides and abseils with a rope. Canyon Adventures provides the necessary technical equipment.
The duration of the canyoning excursions offered by Canyon Adventures to the general public is approximately half a day, with a stay in the water that varies from approximately 1.5 to 3.5 hours. The entry and exit from the canyon involve walking along paths of different steepness and exposure. No specific preparation is necessary, but good physical condition, good confidence with water and a minimum weight of 40kg are required.
FOR EACH CANYONING TOUR, DIVES AND SLIDES ARE NOT MANDATORY AND ARE DONE BY EACH PARTICIPANT UNDER THEIR OWN RESPONSIBILITY.
Canyoning abseils with Canyon Adventures are passive.
The following equipment is planned and provided by the organization for canyoning:
- 5 mm neoprene wetsuit and socks, washed with disinfectant solution after each use
- buoyancy aid vest
- helmet
- harness
Each participant is required to bring the following personal items:
- a pair of comfortable trainers. The following are NOT permitted: very old shoes, trekking sandals, rock shoes, toe shoes (neoprene socks must be worn underneath)
- swimwear (arleady on)
- towel (or bathrobe – recommended)
- dry change plastic bag for storing wet clothes
For each tour we change directly on site, before entering the water (there are NO changing rooms or bathrooms).
Risk policy for potential dangerous sport activity
It is compulsory for every participant to use the complete equipment provided by the organization during the whole duration of the tour. Every participant must follow the instructions given by the guides, avoiding any personal initiative and cooperating when requested. The guides are entitled to postpone, suspend or change the excursions in case of bad weather or any other situation threatening the safety of the participants. The guides are also free to decide about any participants’ fitness.
During the transfer in the Canyon Adventures’ coaches you must fasten your seat belts. Canyon Adventures won’t be held responsible for fines.
THE USER/PARTICIPANT DECLARES TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:
- canyoning is an outdoor sport practiced in a particular natural environment, and as such it does involve some objective risks (like rockslides, thunderstorms, variations of the water level, drowning, encounter with harmful animals and plants, uneven terrain…)
- slides and jumps, although being fun, are always potentially dangerous and that they are never compulsory but can be avoided or done by abseiling.
SLIDES AND JUMPS THEREFOR ARE NOT MANDATORY AND THE GUIDES CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR CORRECT EXECUTION - Walking on uneven and slippery underground involves the risk of skipping and injuring joints
- Swimming passages involve the potential risk of drowning
- There is crushing hazard against rocks
- Danger of rock and/or tree fall along the whole route including walk in and walk out
- All activities are to be done by every participant independently under his own control and responsibility and in case of accidents I will not make up at the guides’ or C.A.’s expenses.
HE/SHE DECLARES AS WELL THAT:
- he/she can swim and I am in good health conditions I am not under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
- he/she does not suffer from any particular diseases (such as epilepsy, tachicardia, diabetes…), she is not pregnant. He/she has not had previous injuries or suffer from orthopedic problems. All this cases MUST BE DECLARED TO THE GUIDES.
- he/she read and understood the safety protocol on the bottom of this document
- he/she will pay compensation in case of damages to the equipment due to misuse.
- Canyon Adventures won’t be held responsible in case of theft, loss or damage to any personal belongings left in the busses.
- he/she agrees that pictures and videos taken during the tours may be published or used by C.A. for advertising purposes
- Action cameras or other cameras are allowed only if use does not interfere with personal safety and the one of the whole group. The guides are NOT responsible for custody, loss or recovery of the cameras.
- Helmet cameras, selfie sticks and chest harnesses for cameras are not allowed for safety reasons. Cameras are to be secured with a lace and stocked behind the buoyancy vest during the action phases and used only in static position.
Insurance
All our guides have a compulsory Third Part insurance that coves all the components of canyoning under direct responsibility of the guide (e.g. abseiling). Attention: This is not a personal insurance for every participant and does NOT cover injuries occurred during walking, swimming, sliding, jumping
SAFETY PROTOCOL
Outdoor activities can never be considered 100% safe due to the many variables of human, environmental and de facto risks. Therefor a residual risk is always to be accounted for. Nevertheless, Canyon Adventures adopts the following general safety measures for canyoning (and for all activities of their catalogue in general) to minimize every kind of risk and make their excursions as safe as possible.
- At the moment of the first contact or written offer, participants are informed about some components of canyoning like jumps and slides not being compulsory and potentially dangerous.
- During transfer or at encounter with the guides, every participant reads and signs a document called “Risk policy for potential dangerous sport activity” (in 3 languages), which contains a list of the most common dangers and again states the fact that jumps and slides are not mandatory and there is always the chance of a safer alternative. Every participant also declares that he or she does not suffer from any particular disease or health status which could be worsened or endangered by permanence in cold water or challenging physical activity.
- Immediately before starting the excursion the guide holds a short briefing about correct behavior in the canyon, the safest way to approach the various passages (jumps, slides, abseils), again points out dangers and risks and the chance to avoid them and in general trains the participants for the beginning activity.
- During the descent, at every potentially dangerous spot the guides assists participants and protect them from fall
- Abseiling is passive on all canyoning tours at Canyon Adventures. This means that it is the guide who secures and controls the descent with the rope.
- Progression and safety techniques are constantly evolving and adapted to technological innovations, technical level of the group, water levels and weather conditions.
- All out tours are led by IFMGA mountain guides with specialization in canyoning and professional canyoning guides with an approved international certification, in continuous professional training.
- Every guide has learnt basic life support measures during his/her education and training.
- Every guide and staff member is trained to follow a standard emergency protocol in case of accidents, health issues or other problems during the excursions
- For every excursion an external staff member (driver or office staff) is in charge of tracking the progression of the group and is to be contacted in case of problems or upon exit of the canyon. If this contact does not happen within a stated time limit, this external staff member will start organizing rescue measures as by the standard safety protocol.
- Every guides carries in his backpack a waterproof box containing first aid kit and emergency telephone, in which emergency numbers along with numbers of external staff members are saved, to allow a multiple approach to start the rescue measures.
- Both emergency phones and first aid kits are checked at regular intervals (not longer than 2 weeks) as well as after any opening of the waterproof box.
- Clients are equipped with the following items:
– certified climbing helmets to protect from rock fall and tree fall
– 5mm neoprene wetsuit with hood and neoprene socks (plus an additional piece of neoprene on the colder days) to protect against hypothermia
– special canyoning harnesses with abrasion protections and climbing longe to protect against falling
– buoyancy aid vests to protect against drowning and which give an additional protection against impact to chest and spine - All equipment is constantly checked and repaired or replaced if needed. Clients are also told to check the assigned equipment items for defects. Guides and staff are asked to withdraw defect items, label them and hand them out to warehouse staff for repair or replacement.
- During the hours prior to every tour, weather forecast and water levels are monitored through dedicated internet sites and personally by the guides in loco. The guides are entitled to cancel, interrupt or postpone every tour, if weather conditions and actual or predicted water levels are such to endanger themselves and the group.
